Just like my first overseas trip gave me a taste for travel overseas, my second trip gave me a taste for cruising. Even though I had actually booked the cruise portion of this trip before I even left home for the first cruise.
It turned out that this trip would be more focused on the cruise itself, rather than as much land content. But I still managed to fit in around three weeks on the ground in The USA & Canada before the cruise.
The cruise is one of the two great ocean crossing voyages. Departing from Vancouver and spending around 26 days navigating the Pacific Ocean to reach Sydney.
The Statistics
The distance covered on this trip was 30,409km (17,335 miles). Of which 14,425km (8,695 miles) was by air and 15,984km (8,640 miles) was by sea.
There was a total of four flights spending some 16 hours in the air.
I visited seven different countries, United States of America, Canada, American Samoa, Western Samoa, Fiji, New Caledonia, and Australia.
I spent a total of 16 nights in hotels, Las Vegas (2), Seattle (1), Portland (4), Victoria BC (4), Vancouver (3), Sydney (2). I also spent six nights staying with a friend in Seattle. Additionally, I spend 26 nights onboard Holland America Line MS Volendam.
In addition to the air and sea travel mentioned, there was also some ground and sea-based travel. Including a return train journey between Seattle and Portland and Ferry trip from Seattle to Victoria, Canada. However, these are rather minimal distances compared to the longer trips.
